Realtors® Protecting From Cyber Risk - Workshops and Broker Summit

At the heart of every residential real estate sales transaction lies information highly sought after by cyber criminals from around the world. The personal, legal, and financial information that is shared electronically and by email across the agent's network includes details rich with potential for the most profitable criminal schemes including financial fraud, extortion, blackmail, and tax fraud. The industry is responding by providing information and resources the professionals need to protect themselves, their client, their broker, and their practice from the elevating risks. A leading example is one of the largest trade associations in the business; the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors®, and the upcoming "Cyber Security Workshops" and "Broker Summit" they are hosting later this June.

The residential real estate sales industry in the U.S. experienced a surge of cyber crime over the last 9 - 12 months. Leaders in the business acknowledge the industry is targeted for the quality of information at hand in a sales transaction, and as the result of a general lack of preparedness.  In many, if not most cases a typical real estate transaction is consummated across a network of individuals that use personal, unprotected devices, and over unsecured networks. For now, the residential real estate industry is the ripest and lowest hanging fruit for sophisticated criminal cartels everywhere.

Cyber Security for Life

Total Digital Security was formed in 2013 to seek out the best IT security technology available anywhere, and make it accessible, easy to use, and affordable to the rest of us.

We provide individuals and small groups that don't have an IT security department with the knowledge and technology they need to protect themselves. For over three years we have been in the field every day working where the rubber hits the road - at the intersection of people, their technology, and risk.

Understanding a new era of risk to their business was at hand, Realtors® and other real estate professionals were early adopters of our platform.  We've been working with them since to adopt new technologies and practices that position them for the challenges ahead.

When the SDAR saw cyber risk emerging in their industry, they wanted answers and resources for the benefit of its 12,000 members. Our partnership was a natural fit, and we are excited to launch our first series of workshops and a "Broker's Summit" later this June.
