What is Browsing Protection?
The purpose of Browsing Protection is to prevent access to malicious sites on the device.
Browsing Protection for the Freedome VPN is an important security layer that prevents the user from accessing websites known to be malicious.
It's proactive and particularly effective as early intervention and prevention significantly reduces the user's exposure to content with malicious intent, and thus cyberattacks.
As an example, Browsing Protection on Freedome prevents end-users from being tricked into visiting seemingly legitimate phishing sites, accessing malicious sites through an email embedded link, or getting a virus infection through malicious 3rd-party ads on what are otherwise legitimate and safe sites.
The Browser Protection works by accessing the latest reputation check of the user's websites and their files from F-Secure's Security Cloud, based on various data points such as IP addresses, URL keywords, and site behavior.
Browsing Protection is fully browser agnostic, working on any browser, as it works at the network level. This ensures that it still provides protection regardless of the browser being used.
How do I control Browsing Protection?
As the license owner and user, you have the option of switching Browsing protection "On" or "Off."
With the protection turned "Off" all of the Browsing Protection security and protection features will be disabled and you are at your own risk.
If a website is blocked by your VPN and you want to over-ride the block, turn the Browsing Protection service "Off" by accessing your Freedome VPN app, and tapping "Browsing Protection" in the blue concentric circle. Tap again, and find the toggle switch for "On" and "Off."
If you chose to disable the protection service, be sure to turn it back "On" when it is practical for you to do so.
Reminder - setting Browsing Protection to "Off" disables important security functions across all of your browsing activities and increases your risk of harm.
